3 Quick Steps To Setting Up Your Actor Blog

Let’s imagine you’ve already set up your actor website and understand the benefits of having your own actor blog.

What happens next?

You need to make some adjustments to the back end of your actor blog in order to enhance its functionality.  Here are simple steps that go a long way in having your site properly set up.

Step One – Permalinks

One of the first things you want to quickly take care of is your Permalink setup.

  • A permanent is a static hyperlink to a particular web page or entry in a blog.  So basically, whatever the title of your post is, that title is what will come up as a permalink with your website domain attached to it.

For example:  http://www.monologueblogger.com/actor-websites-made-easy-4-simple-steps/

Assuming you have WordPress installed, go to the left side of your menu until you see “Settings” down below and when you hover over it with your mouse a menu will pop out and you will then see the word, “Permalinks”.

Click on Permalinks and you will be taken here:

Click on where it reads, “POST NAME”  and hit save.

The reasons why you want to make this adjustment is because you need to be sure that when you publish a post, it will read out in your URL the words you want to be seen, which in turn, will be seen in search engines.

When you first install WordPress, they automatically enable a default permalink structure, which turns out not being the most user-friendly.  It is better to refer a visitor to a URL like, http://www.yourwebsite.com/my-latest-film/ rather than something such as, http://www.yourwebsite.com/?page_id=52619.

Google does index URL’s that contain query strings but search engines do prefer you to use “friendlier” URLs, which is why I suggest going with the “post name” option.

Have a look at Google’s Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide, which supports what I’m sharing with you.

Step Two – Timezone

While still in Settings-General but further down below the page, you will notice that you have a Timezone option.  This needs to get adjusted to the actual timezone you are in.

After you have made the correct timezone selection, be sure to save everything by clicking the ‘save changes’ button found at the bottom left corner.

Step Three – Tagline

This is a quick fix as well.  Just go to the left side menu again.  When hovering over Settings with your mouse, you will see the pop up again and this time I would like for you to click on the word, “General”.

This will allow you to change the “Just Another WordPress Blog” to something that is more suited to what you are using your blog site for, such as your name and your blog’s intention.

  • SITE TITLE:  write what the name of your blog will be (perhaps your name)
  • TAGLINE: write what your blog’s intention is about

There you have it, 3 quick steps to setting up your actor blog.

You will eventually want to get involved in experimenting with different WordPress plugins which will enhance your blog.
