With the pressures of an acting career, an actor’s body goes through many changes. Most of which aren’t healthy or natural. We recently visited owner Myungjin Chung of Treasure Moon Healing, a New York and Massachusetts State licensed Acupuncturist, and Nationally Certified Herbalist who often treats actors with acupuncture.
Myungjin graduated from the New England School of Acupuncture, one of the most renowned and the first Oriental Medical School in the United States, where she studied Chinese Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture, as well as Japanese Acupuncture.
When we spoke to Myunjin, she explained how she begins the process with a new patient, beginning with an in depth consultation, understanding the patients body and diet as well as their current emotional state. She walked us through the steps of acupuncture, it’s benefits and how a course of acupuncture, as well as a diet well suited to our own body, can reverse and prevent many health issues.
Can you talk to us about the process you take with your clients when they arrive for a treatment?
For the first visit, most hours are spent for the intake. Your health history, life style, current health issues, including pulse, tongue and abdominal diagnosis. After those procedures, I set a treatment plan and if there is time left a short session will be provided.
How long does a treatment typically last?
For an hour.
How long have you been practicing acupuncture?
What are the positive results you have seen from your work as an acupuncturist?
Most of my patients get a more positive result than they expected, since acupuncture and oriental medicine is systematic healing, which means when one of the conditions improve, the rest of your body’s illness’ and wellbeing gets improved
How did you know which areas of the human body to target for a particular client?
Through the intake, diagnosis.
How do you diagnose the dietary recommendation you give to your client?
It depends on each individual’s condition and constitution.
What is the main goal you wish to achieve with your practice for people?
Not only healing, but also empowers patients to sustain a healthy lifestyle and self-awareness of their body and mind.
In what ways do you feel acupuncture can benefit actors?
Not only actors, universally everyone gets a similar benefit but I have been treating actors to excel in their performance physically and mentally and also injuries from their work.
