Back in March Apple announced it was getting in on original content programming. An open casting call launched this week, confirming Apple’s push forward within the TV-content arena, opening its doors for their original series, “Planet Of The Apps“.
Viewers will be taken along the journey of what it’s like for an app developer’s creation process, including advice from tech experts, funding from VC’s and App Store promotion. Everything from development, creation and final actuality of the app.
“We can really tell their stories as we explore how apps are developed and created and incubated,” says Ben Silverman, executive producer. The show also pairs will.i.am and Howard Owens as part of the executive producer team.
The idea of the show will be shot as an unscripted reality TV styled one. Propagate Content is co-producing the show. The same company that also brought you, “The Biggest Loser” and “Master Chef.” The show will shoot in Los Angeles and is scheduled for production in late 2016 through early 2017.
App developers that are chosen will receive expert one on one guidance by some of the world’s top tech and entertainment professionals. Those who succeed in making it to the final round of the contest, will have the opportunity to get backed by Venture Capitalists for up to 10 million dollars. Developers will also have the chance of being featured in the App Store with potential audience reach of millions across Apple platforms.
Only 100 contestants will be selected so here’s where to apply now.
Applications are open from now until August 26th and must have an iOS, macOS, tvOS, or watchOS app in beta by October 21 in order to be eligible.
Applicants must also submit a one-minute video describing the story behind their app invention.
Apple has also delved into an original scripted series, “Vital Signs”, which will star Dr. Dre.
