Who You Want To Be

In this female dramatic monologue, JANE talks openly and honestly to her friend about how she feels that she is losing her soul for false physical ideals.

JANE: You need to seek help Tracy. This is the third time you’ll be getting plastic surgery! Is this what you think is going to give you a successful career? How perfectly shaped your nose will look on the big screen? How graciously your hair will fall into place? You are giving in! What happened to you? You use to be a good actress!!! You had something about you, something I admired. Like a part of you just didn’t give a damn! You looked raw, free, natural. To me, you were more beautiful than you’ve ever been.

I’m sorry Trace, I don’t want to hurt you but someone needs to tell you this, that you are ruining yourself. You need to stop this now, love yourself more…focus on what is important…believe in your talent, your intelligence. You don’t need to conform, you are too talented for that crap!! But if you don’t stop, you will ruin yourself!! You’ll kill all the chances you had of becoming something unique just because you gave into weakness, because you never made the right choices. I’m never going to tell you this again…it’s for you to decide who you want to become, what you want your life to be about. But don’t look at me and tell me that you’ve failed yourself, that you never became the actress you wanted to become because you were too scared, because you gave in to the things that never mattered.
