Into the Cold Night Air With You

In this monologue Linda observes her boyfriend making out with some random woman through a window to an apartment building. She sits inside a cab and talks to the driver about the situation.

LINDA: …You can take me back to where you picked me up, please. I’d appreciate it.

(pause)

No, I’m going to be alright. I-I just, need to drink a bottle of wine and take a hot bath. Clear my mind, you know? Just need to get right before I decide how I’m going to handle this. If you don’t mind, I really don’t feel like talking. I appreciate your kind words. But I-I just need to be alone for now. Thank you, thank you…

(beat)

My girlfriends have been telling me for months but I just couldn’t let myself believe it. But then, then I started paying attention. I started noticing little changes with him. It led me to think different. And here I am, sitting in this damn taxi cab, having the shock of my life. Excuse me? Ha Ha Ha. Thanks, I appreciate that, sir. What? Oh, my name is Linda. Yes, Linda. (beat)  What’s your name? Al? Nice to meet you, Al.

(beat)

You can pull over right here. This is close enough.  I’m going to walk the rest of the way.
